Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA)
While all of our team are accredited in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), recently Adam and Ciara have attained advanced level two accreditation. This is a highly specialised assessment for measuring your functionality and movement. This sets them apart from physiotherapy in general as they are able to identify problems earlier and before they become an issue.
The SFMA is an assessment that will allow people with both straight forward and difficult injuries to finally receive the treatment required to ensure rapid injury resolution.
The SFMA is ahead of its time in therapeutic care for fitness and athlete development. The group who developed the assessment are some of the best physiotherapists in the world. They are often asked to review professional athletes that other clinicians are unable to fix.
Patients will have a prescription of exercise that will immediately work to reduce the pain from their injury. They will understand the how and the why of injury which will ensure recurrence doesn’t occur. By getting to the cause quickly, the outcome is a faster recovery for the patient, which is the desire of any clinician.
Modern medicine is a master at understanding direct trauma to tissue but this triage model unfortunately falls woefully short when the injury is insidious (no specific cause of injury). Insidious onset injury accounts for more than 90% of injuries that present to a physiotherapy clinic.
Our training in the SFMA will mean we will be the first point of call for musculoskeletal injury in the area. Call us now to find out more.
